About Dr. Cynthia Clark PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN
Dr. Clark is the Founder of Civility Matters and Professor Emeritus at Boise State University, recognized as an award-winning professor, scholar, and author. With expertise in adolescent mental health, substance abuse recovery, and suicide and violence prevention, she spent two decades teaching various nursing courses as a tenured university professor.
A fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the NLN Academy of Nursing Education, Dr. Clark co-chaired the American Nurses Association Professional Panel on Incivility, Bullying, and Workplace Violence. Her pioneering work on fostering civility and healthy work environments has garnered national and international attention, addressing the critical issues of incivility in academic and professional settings worldwide.
Her theory-driven interventions, empirical measurements, theoretical models, and reflective assessments offer best practices for preventing, measuring, and addressing uncivil behavior, ultimately creating healthier workplaces. Dr. Clark has received numerous awards for her teaching, service, and research and has served as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at 12 universities. Her engaging presentations are widely acclaimed, and her empirical assessments have been translated into 16 languages, utilized by scholars in 32 countries across five continents.
Her latest book, Core Competencies of Civility for Nursing & Healthcare, is essential reading for healthcare professionals. The much-anticipated third edition of her book, Creating and Sustaining Civility in Nursing Education: A Faculty Field Guide, will be released in spring 2025. A dedicated community builder, Dr. Clark is an unwavering advocate for a kinder, more civil world. She and her husband are proud parents of three successful young adults and caretakers of a delightful array of rescue pets.
